This nail design is inspired by my all time favorite anime, Sailor Moon. I wanted it to be very fun but also practical for daily wear. With the return of Sailor Moon in the new series Sailor Moon Crystal, there’s no better time to rock this cool design.
Products I used are:
- Soft Pastels- Red and Yellow
- Tammy Taylor acrylic powder- Whitest White
- Beauty Secret acrylic powder- White
- Pink acrylic powder
- Acrylic Brush #6
- No Lift Acrylic Liquid (monomer)
- Pink Tinted Polish
- Sinful Color Glitter Polish – Show Stopping
- Ruby Kisses HD glitter polish- HDP43
- Clear Rhinestones- 2mm
- Seche Vite Top Coat
First I prepped my nails for the design. This picture is after I filled in, shaped, filed, and buff the nails.
I am using this red to create a red acrylic powder. I place a small amount of the Beauty Secret white acrylic powder into a container. Then I use a straight razor to shave off some of the soft pastel into a container. I use the opposite end my by acrylic brush to thoroughly mix the powders.
I repeat the same process to make the yellow acrylic powder.
Next I use this pink tinted polish on all ten nails. I created this polish by adding a few drops of a red polish into a clear polish.
I then use ???? glitter polish by Sinful Colors. I concentrate the polish only on the tips of the nails. I apply two coats of this polish.
I then use Ruby Kisses HD glitter polish. This is a silver, chunkier glitter polish. I place this polish only on the tips as well.
Here, I am using this silicon mold (purchased from Ebay) to create star and crescent moon shaped acrylic pieces. I use the Tammy Taylor powder and the yellow acrylic powder for these pieces. The acrylic powder must be complete dry and hardened before the pieces can be removed from the mold. While the powder set, I move on to the next step.
Here I began to create Sailor Moon’s bow. I start with a medium size bead of red acrylic and place it in the center of my nail. This will be the center of the bow and my guide for placing the remainder of the acrylic. I pat the ball of acrylic with the side of my brush to flatten it.
I then began to work of the lower ribbons of the bow first, then I work on the top bow area.
To finish off the bow, I place a small bead of yellow acrylic in the center and flat it out.
For the wand, I began by placing a large bead of yellow acrylic on the nail. I then start from the center of the bead and work from the inside out to create the crescent moon shape.
I use the pink acrylic powder for the wand handle.
I use the yellow and red acrylic powder to add details to the wand.
I then remove the acrylic pieces from the mold. I did not use all of them for this design. At the time, I didn’t know which or how many pieces I would need.
I use the Seche Vite topcoat to adhere the 3D acrylic pieces to my nails.
I then apply the rhinestones.
Lastly, I apply two coats of the Seche Vite topcoat.
This is the completed look. I really love this design.
